This book, based on a true event, recreates the last 24 hours of Eddie's life. Along the way we learn his compelling backstory: when Eddie is labeled a "borderline moron" as a toddler, his parents embark on a mission to educate him and give him the chance for a normal life. He defies his physical challenges by becoming an advanced skier who skis all over North America and Europe with his pals from New York. On the ski club's annual trip in 2010, the poor weather on January 19 sends the club members off the slopes and into the bar, but Eddie continues skiing. When he realizes he is no longer inside the resort boundaries he makes several desperate calls to 911. As the search plays out during the nighttime hours of January 19, three young ski patrollers question the decisions made by their superiors as politics, class wars and power struggles take precedence over a human life.
